Water supply restrictions will come in to effect in Fanore tonight to allow for the recovery of local reservoir levels .
Homes & businesses in the North Clare village are being encouraged to conserve water following exceptionally high demand amid the current warm weather spell.
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Clare County Council are advising customers in Fanore and the surrounding areas that essential night-time water restrictions are required over the coming days to help Fanore Reservoir levels recover.
This is due to operational issues and exceptionally high demand for water amidst the current warm weather conditions.
To help reservoir levels recover and maintain a sufficient water supply to homes and businesses during normal working hours, restrictions are being introduced tonight, Tuesday, June 6, from 10pm, until 6am tomorrow morning.
The restrictions will continue for successive nights until reservoir levels stabilise and customers in Craggagh, Crumlin, Dereen West, Fanore More, Fanore Beg, and surrounding areas are naticipated to be affected.
In the interim period, Uisce Éireann will continue to tanker water to the reservoir to supplement supply , while an alternative water supply is in place at the car park of O’Donoghue’s pub in Fanore Village.
Homes and businesses are being advised that any reduction customers can make in usage can collectively result in significant supply improvements for all customers.
People are being encouraged to save and reuse water collected from baths, showers, and hand basins in the garden, to check for leaks on outdoor taps or troughs and to minimise the amount of water used in seasonal paddling pools.
Members of the public can report any leaks in the public water network by contacting Uisce Éireann 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on 1800 278 278 or through the Uisce Éireann website – water.ie.
Uisce Eireann is apologising to all customers in the area who are impacted by the restrictions.
Statement From Uisce Eireann
Speaking about the water restrictions and conserving water, Uisce Éireann’s Regional Operations Lead Duane O’Brien said, “Uisce Éireann and Clare County Council engineers will continue to monitor water levels and work towards ensuring a water supply to customers is maintained where possible over the coming days. However, water restrictions are required overnight to give the affected reservoirs time to replenish.
“We would like to apologise to customers who are impacted by these restrictions and ask that people continue to conserve their water usage while we work to restore full supply to these affected areas.”
“Uisce Éireann will continue to monitor the levels at all our supplies over the coming weeks and months and take any actions that may be necessary to maintain supplies, including communicating about localised issues as they arise.”
