Calls are being made for a collaborative approach to ensuring a year-round rescue service is in place at the beach in Lahinch.

Independent Councillor Ian Lynch wants to see a dialogue begin with the voluntary emergency service to seek the establishment of a local off-peak beach rescue service, to be linked to the existing lifeguard cover.

Clare County Council says Water Safety Ireland is responsible for administering water safety here but that they provide financial support, among other things, to Lahinch Surf Rescue annually too.
