Emergency services remain on alert with more bad weather forecast over the coming days.

Clare County Council says water levels on the Lower River Shannon at Springfield are only 10cms below 2009 peak levels today, partly due to rising water levels on the Mulkear River, which enters the River Shannon south of Annacotty.

Council area staff, Clare County Fire & Rescue Service and Clare Civil Defence are continuing to provide support on the ground in Clonlara.

While, defence forces personnel have also been deployed to aid in the transportation of people living in a dozen home isolated by flood waters in the Springfield area, as well as the operation of water pumps.

The ESB is maintaining the flow of water from Parteen Weir at 470 cubic metres per second but the power company is warning that water levels in Lough Derg may reach 2009 levels in the coming days – posing a serious flood risk.

Meanwhile, twelve houses have become flooded in Gort following heavy rainfall last night and a further 30 remain under threat as flood water continues to rise.

Anyone travelling in the area are being advised to stick to the main routes as a number of back roads remain submerged in the area.

Today has seen a slight improvement in weather conditions but with more bad weather forecast for tomorrow, the risk of further flooding remains.
