Warning That Concerns About Retailers Could Prevent Alcohol Bill From Passing

A prominent consultant psychiatrist has warned that concerns about retailers could see a new Public Health Alcohol Bill fail to get through the Dáil.

The legislation has been criticised by some Fine Gael TDs who say a measure that would segregate alcohol in shops will cut incomes in small businesses.

Initially due to be passed this year, the legislation has now been deferred until 2017, and some politicians have spoken of strong lobbying against it.
