A war of words has erupted in Clare County Council chambers after a long-standing councillor hit out at the local authority for “closing down rural Ireland” with its planning rules.
Fianna Fáil’s PJ Kelly put forward a motion at this month’s meeting, calling for equal fees in the planning contribution scheme to be introduced for rural and urban areas.
This refers to a fee paid by applicants once planning permission is granted which, at present can be up to €2,000 more expensive for those in rural parts.
