Families planning to stroll off the festive excess are being urged to be aware of the changing tides if walking along shorelines .
The new moon over christmas increases the range of the tides at coastal spots across Clare in areas like Lahinch, Ballycuggeran, Kilkee, and Doonbeg exposing large areas of beaches and rocks not normally seen.

Many people are then likely to explore these areas but John Leech of Irish Water Safety is warning of the high risk of becoming stranded due to the rapid nature of the high and low tides
