Voting Underway In US Presidential Election

Millions of Americans are heading to the polls to elect their 45th president today, after a final campaign push from the candidates overnight.

According to the latest poll of polls, Hillary Clinton has the lead over her rival Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, a media spotlight is being shone on Doonbeg, with both Donald Trump and his running mate Mike Pence having links to the West Clare village.

Polling stations have opened in some US States this morning, after Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump made their final pitches last night.

Both candidates will cast their own ballots in New York after dashing around the country's crucial swing states.

As soon as the polls close, there'll be a projection for each state, but the most recent polls have given Clinton the edge.

But it's too early to discount Donald Trump, who has also garnered support from some US citizens living outside the states.

On of those is West Clareman Chris Sexton emigrated to the US in the Mid-fiftees and became a citizen, before returning home again.

The Mullagh man's voted on an absentee ballot. 

Meanwhile, there's strong attention on Doonbeg ahead of the result, given Trump's five-star golf resort there, and the fact that the grandmother of his running mate Mike Pence comes from the same village.

While Governor Pence visited Doonbeg in 2013 and local publician Tommy Tubridy hopes he will return as US Vice President one day.

But for now, it's a waiting game to see who the next president of the Unite States will be, with a result due in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
