A Clare woman who lost her sight six years ago is urging people to consider the safety and independence of visually impaired pedestrians.
It comes as the National Council of the Blind has launched their annual ‘Clear Our Path Campaigns’ which aims to remove objects and hazards from streets and footpaths to enable those with blindness to move around independently.
A recent group survey found that 40% of members had been injured by unexpected obstacles in the past year, with parked cars, dog fouling and wheelie bins the most common obstructions.
Ennis Native Clare Cassidy says the public should always keep the dangers posed to vulnerable citizens in mind.
