Strict visitor restrictions have been put in place at the region’s main hospital following a measles outbreak.

The highly contagious infection has been detected in the Limerick City area in recent weeks and a small number of infected patients are in isolation at University Hospital Limerick.

Only one visitor per patient is allowed until further notice and the visiting hours from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm will be strictly adhered to until the outbreak is contained.

Parents visiting children are also being urged not to bring siblings on visits and anyone who is concerned they may be presenting measles symptoms is being asked to contact their GP by phone in the first instance.
