Visiting restrictions at the region’s main hospital are being gradually restored from today, with some exceptions.

A visiting ban was introduced for all inpatient wards at University Hospital Limerick a week ago due to outbreaks of Covid-19 and the flu.

Seven wards were affected but the decision was taken to limit visitation on all wards to curtail the spread of the viruses.

The hospital is now in a position to gradually reverse these measures – starting today.

However, Wards 1B, 1D and the Trauma ward remain closed to visitors.

Scheduled slots for one visitor per patient are available on all other wards and must be booked through the online booking system.

Updates regarding the three wards which remain under outbreak control will be posted on the hospital’s online booking system.

The hospital apologises for the remaining restrictions and say the decision was made to keep all patients and staff safe and to ensure the hospital’s essential services can continue to operate, with the measures being reviewed on a daily basis.

Visiting restrictions are also in place for the Emergency Department, Acute Surgical Assessment Unit, and Acute Medical Assessment Unit.
