Visiting restrictions have been introduced at Ennis Hospital this afternoon.
It follows an outbreak of COVID-19 on the Burren Ward at the facility.
The UL Hospitals Group says hospital management has decided that it’s necessary to impose these measures in the interests of patient safety and keeping essential services open for all patients.
The Group says the measure is a precautionary one and the decision is being reviewed on a daily basis.
The only exceptions to the rule are for people assisting those who are confused with the likes of dementia, or those who are critically unwell or at end of life.
Visits to other areas of the hospital are continuing as normal.
The UL Hospitals Group says it regrets any inconvenience caused by the move, and wants to reassure patients and family members that all appropriate infection control precautions are being followed to minimise the risk of spreading infection.
