Four Garda stations in Clare recorded more incidents of violent crime last year than of any other type of offence.
The latest Central Statistics Office data shows while theft remains the most prevalent type of crime in many parts of Clare, attempts or threats to murder, assaults, harassments and related offences are on the rise in certain areas.
Ennis Garda Station recorded 577 incidents of theft and related offences last year which although the highest in the county, was down 8% on its 2023 figure.
Shannon saw 95 such incidents which indicates a 26% spike in a year while 54 theft-related incidents were reported to Killaloe Garda Station, pointing to a 24% drop there.
Theft was the most common type of offence at most other Garda stations in the county last year including Ennistymon, Sixmilebridge, Kilrush, Newmarket-on-Fergus and Scariff.
At Miltown Malbay Garda Station, a total of 17 incidents fell under the bracket of attempts or threats to murder, assaults, harassments and related offences.
This was the most reported offence type at the West Clare station, as was the case in Lisdoonvarna, Corofin and Kildysart Garda Stations where 11, seven and two such incidents were recorded, respectively.
At Kildysart Garda Station meanwhile, this offence type was tied with public order and other social offences, and offences against government, justice procedures and organisation of crime, as the most commonly-encountered type of crime, with two incidents of each recorded there.
