Vicky Phelan says she’ll fight to stay alive for the rest of her life.

The Limerick mother will meet the Taoiseach this afternoon – and says she will then take a break from campaigning over the Cervical Check controversy.

Since Vicky Phelan first highlighted the scandal in April – she’s worked tirelessly for the 200 other women and their families affected.

However in a post on twitter she says she’s angry and upset and says she’s been condemned by some people for ‘bringing down the cervical screening programme’.

The Limerick mother says she’s deeply disturbed by the lack of empathy being shown towards women caught up in the scandal.

Earlier this week she called on the Taoiseach to take control of the situation – something Leo Varadkar admits doesn’t always happen:

Vicky Phelan will meet the Taoiseach this afternoon.

Leo Varadkar says he’s looking forward to getting her advice on a number of issues including a system of redress and compensation, making sure no woman has to go to court and restoring trust in the screening programme.
