A young Clare woman who passed away abroad has been remembered as a vibrant, popular and talented individual who will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Tributes have been flowing in for 24 year-old Olivia Tuohy from Ennis, who died while participating in the Edinburgh Marathon on May 25th.
A former student of Rice College in Ennis, a footballer with the Banner Ladies, a camogie star with Eire Óg, a graduate of Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh and a nurse; Olivia Tuohy’s gifts and circle of friends extended far and wide.
She only played for The Townies for five years but according to her former Coach, it was like she was there forever given her warmth and staunch dedication.
On the field, Eire Óg trainer Pat McMahon says Olivia was the perfect wing-forward but will be most remembered for displaying the qualities of honesty, dedication, positivity, kindness and vibrancy off the field.
Pat says he will never forget Olivia’s smile and that she will always be a member of Eire Óg.
Olivia has also been remembered for her fierce friendship and her determination which she displayed in abundance on her journey to becoming a nurse.
She excelled in her field after moving to Edinburgh and was recalled to the ward where she undertook her placement at the Royal Infirmary.
Her next door neighbour, school mate, team mate and lifelong friend Roisín Martin has told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that Olivia had two different lives with all of the friends she made in Ireland and then in Scotland.
Roisín says having Olivia as a friend was like having two families and two bedrooms and that she will stay forever in the hearts of the many people who knew her.
Olivia is survived by her parents Kieran and Liz, her brother Stephen, her partner Michael and wide circle of family and friends.
She will be laid to rest on Saturday following a funeral mass at Ennis Cathedral at 11am.
May She Rest in Peace.
