Very Slight Drop In Live Register Figures In Clare

There has been a very slight drop in the number of people on the live register in Clare in the past month.

The fall of 0.5 per cent, brings the seasonally adjusted total of those signing on in the county to just over 7,700.

7,700 people claimed some form of unemployment benefit in Clare in the month of January, a drop of 44 on the previous month.

Ennis saw the greatest decrease where 48 people left the live register, while in the North of the county 3 people signed off.

There was a similar picture in West Clare, where the number dropped by 6 but in contrast, in East Clare, 7 people joined the dole queues last month.

But the latest CSO figures show an 8% drop in the number of people signing on since the same time last year.

And there's been a vast improvement in unemployment levels over the past five years, with a 29% drop in the number of people claiming unemployment benefit in Clare.
