It’s alleged Melanie Verwoerd’s  autobiography ‘When We Dance’ defames a friend of the 2fm DJ.

Melanie Verwoerd was in court as her memoir went on sale this morning but a court order means it’ll have to be removed from book stores for at least 2 weeks.

Dave Kavanagh, a friend of the late Gerry Ryan, claims he is defamed in the autobiography and he wants to restrain its publication.

He was one of the last people to see the broadcaster when they met for drinks and dinner the night before his untimely death from heart failure, most likely caused by cocaine and alcohol.

Lawyers for Ms Verwoerd and publishers Liberties Press told an early morning urgent court sitting that they’d only been informed of the proceedings yesterday evening.

They’ve been given until October 24th to put together their case but in the meantime the publishers have consented to an order prohibiting the sale, distribution or further publication of the book.
