Varadker Urges Resolution in Airport Row

The transport minister has urged SIPTU, Aer Lingus and the country’s main airports to reach a quick deal over a pension’s dispute.

SIPTU is balloting members over whether to pursue industrial action over a deficit in the pension scheme shared by Aer Lingus and Shannon, Cork and Dublin airports.

The union warns that any strikes could effectively close the three facilities, but Minister Leo Varadkar says any disruption to air travel – especially during the Six Nations and St Patrick’s Day – would be damaging to the country.

He’s confident a deal will be struck, and wants this to occur without industrial action.
