The Transport Minister says Shannon’s performance this year has justified the decision to establish the Airport on an independent footing.

Leo Varadkar has told The Irish Times that the new Shannon is doing very well, so much so that the arrangement is working out better than he had envisaged.
He praised CEO Neil Pakey for making ‘good’ appointments to his team, and argued that traffic growth in 2013 has confounded doubts held by some that an independent Shannon would be viable.
This summer has seen a 7% increase in passengers at Shannon, with transatlantic services seeing the greatest uplift.
