The new Taoiseach has been criticised for indicating that he will continue with Ireland’s long-running policies on neutrality, and the US Army’s use of Shannon Airport.
The comments have come from Independent TD Clare Daly, a long-time opponent of Shannon’s use by US troops who was arrested at the Airport in 2014, and subsequently convicted, after attempting scaling the perimeter fence to seach planes there.

Since taking office, Taoiseach Varadkar affirmed Ireland’s stance of neutrality and said we were respected internationally for it.
However, Deputy Daly is unimpressed.
