Leo Varadkar has been accused of defaming Paul Murphy – with formal complaints to be made to the Dáil authorities today.

Solidarity’s Paul Murphy says Varadkar accused him of criminal behaviour in the Dáil on Wednesday.

He says his description of the protest as ‘thuggery’, and mentioning of a water balloon being thrown at Joan Burton, accuse him of behaviour he did not take part in.

Among the four others is the justice minister Charlie Flanagan – during the exchange he accused Murphy of “more threats”, which is being interpreted as suggesting Murphy had made previous threats in the past.

Minister Heather Humphreys is also the subject of complaint, for using the phrase ‘bully boy’.

There’s also complaints about Bernard Durkan saying the protest was ‘organised’ and ‘led by’ Murphy, and Mary Mitchell O’Connor who allegedly defamed Murphy by insisting two women WERE kept in a car.
