Van Crashes Through Ennis Shop Window

A man has been taken to hospital after a car crashed through the glass door of an Ennis supermarket.

The incident occurred at Lynch’s Centra on the Gort Road at around 8:30 last night.

The white Ford van came through the front of the supermarket, destroying at least one window, and leaving shards of glass and stock strewn over the shop floor.

Emergency services, including three units from of the fire service from Ennis, were called to the scene where they found that everyone inside had luckily escaped serious injuries. Gardai say it appears to have been a complete accident.

A man, understood the driver of the van, was taken to hospital and while reports say that four others were treated by paramedics at the scene, their injuries are are minor.

No arrests were made, and Gardai are continuing their investigations.

Separately last night, in an unrelated incident, the Shannon-based coast guard helicopter was dispatched to Ennis to take part a search of the River Fergus, after reports that someone had entered the water.

The call was made shortly after 9 o’clock, but there were no signs that such an incident occurred.

And in another separate incident, a man was arrested shortly after midnight on suspicion of drunk driving after the vehicle he was driving hit the window of the Applegreen petrol station near St. Flannan’s College.
