The value of grants approved in Clare under the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant Scheme now exceeds €24 million.
Clare County Council claims it’s now in the top seven local authorities nationwide in relation to application numbers.
A total of 401 applications have been approved in Clare under the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant Scheme since its introduction in July 2022.
Of these, 36% relate to properties in the Kilrush local electoral area while 20% are in the Ennistymon local electoral area, 19% are in the Killaloe local electoral area, 16% are in Ennis and the remaining 10% are in Shannon.
The local authority says €8 million has been paid out to 138 property owners so far, meaning 33% of approved grants have been paid out.
Over 600 applications have been made under the scheme to date and 66% have been approved, making the value of approved grants in Clare above €24 million.
Of the approved grants, 56% are in rural areas and 44% are in towns and villages while 70% are for properties to be used as principal private residences, with the remaining 30% relating to properties for rent.
Clare County Council has also noted that 52 property owners have applied to have the period to complete the works extended and these requests are being considered on a “case by case basis”.
