U.S. Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to visit Dublin and Clare in a weeks time, on Friday and Saturday September 6th and 7th.

However, he’s now making an earlier than planned visit to Europe, standing in for President Trump at World War Two commemorations in Poland this weekend.

The President is withdrawing from that event because of a hurricane that is bearing down on Florida.

It appears this earlier-than-planned trip to Europe by the Vice President may also be impacting his plans for Ireland too.

A series of meetings have been held on the matter today, involving a range of agencies who are involved in various aspects of the visit, and it’s understood these are ongoing.

And while the Department of Foreign Affairs is making no comment this lunchtime, Clare FM understands that Vice President Pence could now touch down at Shannon Airport as soon as Monday.

This has not been confirmed as of yet.

MikePence has been to Ireland and his ancestral home of Doonbeg on a number of previous occasions, including when he was Governor of Indiana, but this will be his first as Vice President.

He’s expected to stay at the Trump Doonbeg resort for at least part of his stay, three months after the President himself spent two nights there.
