A U.S. soldier accused of carrying out a massacre in two Afghan villages is to be charged with 17 counts of murder.

Staff Sergeant Robert Bales was flown out of Afghanistan earlier this month and remains in a military prison in Kansas.
The military believes he went door-to-door killing people – including 9 children – as they slept.
