US firm in Cleary’s Buyout

The US firm which is buying Clerys says the deal will mark a ‘fresh start’ for the department store with almost 350 jobs saved.

Receivers were appointed to the companies which operate the iconic shop on Dublin’s O’Connell Street yesterday, and a deal on its future with US investors Gordon Brothers was confirmed last night.

The 147 staff at the store will be retained under existing terms and conditions as a result of the acquisition by equity group Gordon Brothers.

A further 200 people, who work for concessionaires, will also keep their jobs.

However, its sister shop,Guineys , and the Clerys home furnishing stores in Leopardstown and Nass have been put into liquidation with loss of 29 jobs.
