Urgent Fundraising Appeal From Saint Vincent De Paul

The Society of Saint Vincent De Paul has launched an urgent fundraising appeal as it expects a surge in calls for help from those struggling financially in the coming weeks.

SVP helped 160,000 people in 2019 and expected a 10% increase on that number for this year but now believes that figure will be drastically exceeded by people finding themselves suddenly struggling financially as a result of COVID-19.

The Society’s income has also been hugely reduced as a result of the closure of its 234 shops and cancellation of public collections.

Clare Area President of SVP, Niamh McDonnell told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that some families, who have never missed a rent payment before, are now facing eviction.
