There are more people aged between 25 and 29 in Clare who are unpaid carers than in any other county.
A new census analysis from the Central Statistics Office has revealed the number of people providing regular unpaid car rose by 50% from 2016 to 2022.
The findings from a question in the most recent census on unpaid carers show the percentage of people who are providing regular unpaid care to a family member, neighbour or friend has risen to 6% from just 4% in the previous census.
At a local level, 6.4% of the population of this county are giving unpaid help or support of this nature which gives Clare the sixth highest percentage of unpaid carers nationwide.
There are more unpaid carers in this county between the ages of 50 and 59 than in any other age bracket with over 14% of 50 to 59 year olds providing unpaid care.
Clare also has the highest proportion of unpaid carers between the ages of 25 and 29 in the country with more than 4% of people in their mid to late twenties in this county performing unpaid carer duties for a loved one with a long-term illness, health issue or disability.
Nationally, the analysis show the vast majority of unpaid carers are female with women making up 61% of those providing unpaid care across the country.
