A Clare Government Senator fears that women will be prohibited from returning to the workplace, unless supports for carers and childcare costs are improved.
Róisín Garvey is reacting to a new study from the Cork University Business School and NUI Galway, which analysed 32,500 households from 2002 until the end of last year.
The study found that women were more likely than men to be looking for work and researchers say the findings have negative consequences on gender equality in the state.
Senator Garvey says women face a number of challenges that aren’t currently recognised.
