The Irish Federation of University Teachers has decided to enter public sector pay discussions with the Labour Relations Commission over a revised Croke Park deal.

The decision was made at an emergency meeting of the IFUT’s executive earlier this morning.

Commenting on the decision, Mike Jennings, General Secretary of IFUT, said that it is now up to the official side to prove that the talks are not just an attempt to persuade people to accept proposals that have already been rejected.

Last week the INTO and the Teachers Union of Ireland agreed to try to reach a negotiated agreement over the proposals which include pay cuts, increment freezes and longer working weeks.
