Nurses say University Hospital Limerick is the most overcrowded in the country for the fifth consecutive day.
The latest trolleywatch figures from the INMO show 45 people are waiting for beds at the Dooradoyle facility, 31 of those in the emergency department.
The hospital has been experiencing high numbers of patients attending this week, with levels of overcrowding reaching a peak on Wednesday, when 52 people were left waiting for beds.
UL Hospitals Group is encouraging people to leave the ED for emergencies only and to contact their GP or GP Out-of hours service in the first instance, while the medical assessment unit at Ennis General Hospital is open each day for minor injuries.
