Clare’s Independent TD claims it’s ‘unforgivable’ to see rural post offices close because of a lack of action on the government’s behalf.
The Rural Independent Group, of which Dr Michael Harty is a member, issued a number of recommendations to the government in November 2016, aimed at generating business for the post office network.

But Dr Harty insists that in the almost two years since, none of the motions have been acted on leading to 161 branches, including 6 in Clare, to be lost.
He insists one simple measure could’ve saved the entire network but he believes it may now be too late:
