The unemployment rate stayed unchanged at 7.8 per cent last month, according to CSO figures.
It comes as the Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed has called for the Christmas bonus for jobseekers to be restored.
The unemployment rate in July was down 1.4 per cent on the same month last year.
There are fewer unemployed women than men, and the number of young unemployed people is falling.
16 percent of 15 to 24 year olds are currently unemployed, compared to 24 percent two years ago.
It comes amid calls from various lobby groups to increase social welfare payments.
The INOU have called for the Christmas bonus for jobseekers to be fully restored.
But Minister Leo Varadkar downplayed any increases.
Ann Ferris, chairperson of the INOU said that while jobs are now being created – they're often not suitable for many people.
While the INOU's co-ordinator John Stewart said the minister also needs to provide support for the long term unemployed.
They were speaking as the organisation launched the Working for Work document – which provides a comprehensive guide to entitlements for jobseekers and is available on INOU.IE.
