Unemployment In Clare Falls By Almost 20% In A Year

The number of people claiming unemployment benefit in Clare has dropped by almost 20% in the space of a year.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office indicate the number of people in this county on the Live Register is down almost 900 on this time last year.

A total of 3,704 people in Clare were in receipt of unemployment benefit in March which was 19% below the figure for the same month in 2024.

Of those on the Live Register in Clare last month, 1,946, or 53%, were male, while 1,758, or 47%, were female.

The figures show a continuation of month-on-month decreases in unemployment here, with the number of people claiming unemployment benefit in Clare having reduced by almost 4% between February and March.

Ennis had the longest dole queues in the county, with 1,922 collecting unemployment benefit there, followed by Ennistymon with 678, Kilrush with 643, and Tulla with 461.

The area which has seen the greatest decrease in the last month is Ennistymon where the number presenting in March was down 7% on the figure for the previous month.
