The number of people claiming unemployment benefit in Clare has fallen by almost 20% in the last year.
New CSO figures show the amount presenting at social welfare offices in this county has reached its lowest level since records began.
In total, 3,867 people were on Clare’s live register at the end of January, which is a drop of 19.5% on the same month in 2024.
The vast majority of those presented at the social welfare office in Ennis, accounting for 1,967 people.
Ennistymon saw the largest drop-off with the 743 people joining the dole queues, 39% fewer than the 1,208 that did so the previous year.
In Tulla, just 482 claimed unemployment benefit, with a further 675 signing on at the office in Kilrush.
Overall, the number of people on Clare’s Live Register is at its lowest level since the Central Statistics Office started keeping records in 2003.
