Unemployment Among Clare Women Hits 19-Year Low

Unemployment among women in Clare has hit a 19-year low.

The latest data published by the Central Statistics Office shows the number of women signing on here last month was the lowest it’s been since 2006.

A total of 3,575 people in Clare were availing of some form of unemployment benefit in May.

This was down 7% on the previous month and indicated a reduction of 15% on the same month in 2024.

Of those claiming unemployment benefit in Clare in May, 53% were male and 47% were female.

At 1,694, unemployment among women in the county has hit its lowest level since November 2006 when 1,688 appeared on the Live Register.

It’s also the lowest level of unemployment for Clare people aged 25 and over in the same length of time, with 3,173 signing on last month.

Ennis saw the longest doll queues in the county in May with 1,957 collecting unemployment benefit there, followed by Kilrush with 603, Ennistymon with 549 and Tulla with 466.
