UL Student Rep Hits Out At Loan Proposals

A student representative at the University of Limerick insists a proposed student loan scheme would price people across the region out of third level education.

Under the proposal, students would be lent in the region of 20,000 euro for a college course, which they would pay back when they begin to earn an income after completing their education.

Over five thousand people have protested in Dublin in opposition to the plan, calling instead for free third level education.

UL Students Union Vice President Donal Foley fears the plan would lead colleges to raise fees and heap further financial pressure on students.
