UL Hospitals Group CEO Takes Leave In Same Week Of Record Overcrowding

The CEO of the UL Hospitals Group has gone on leave in the same week that UHL broke it’s own record for hospital overcrowding on two occasions.

An email to senior hospital staff seen by the The Irish Examiner states that ULHG Chief Executive Officer Colette Cowan is “on a leave period”.

The email also confirms that HSE Assistant National Director Sonya Cotter who has formerly worked in the HSE’s Special Delivery Unit, will take up the position of acting CEO from next Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation recorded 138 patients without a bed at the Dooradoyle facility, with this total rising to 150 on Wednesday.

In just the past four days, the INMO has recorded 532 patients without a bed at the MidWest Region’s main hospital.
