UK leaders in Dublin for British Irish Summit

Plans to tackle youth unemployment and the misuse of drugs will be centre stage when the Taoiseach welcomes British leaders to Dublin today.

The UK’s Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg will make his first official visit to Dublin as part of the summit.

This morning political leaders from London, Belfast, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man will be welcomed by the Government.

The British Irish Council summit will also see deputy PM Nick Clegg make his first official visit here.

The current economic crisis, and the new closer relationship since Britain used its EU veto will be on the agenda.

The challenges of youth unemployment and the misuse of drugs and how these can be tackled by the administrations together will also be discussed.

This is the first time the summit has been held in Ireland since 2008, and is the second gathering of the group for An Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
