A UK-based researcher and self-described “busking advocate” says he’s “never seen” some of the terms of the license for performing at a Clare tourism hotspot anywhere else.
Having researched the experience of buskers at the Cliffs of Moher, London-based writer Nick Broad claims they’re not allowed to take cashless payments, bring a packed lunch or sell CDs where they’re sitting.
In a statement to Clare FM, Clare County Council says cashless payments are prohibited “to preserve the traditional busking interaction between musician and audience” and CDs must be sold in the visitor centre shop to ensure “a fair and consistent approach for everyone conducting business on-site”.
Additionally, the local authority has confirmed that buskers are allowed to bring their own food and refreshments.
Nick – who admits he’s never been to the Cliffs of Moher or spoken to anyone who performs there – believes there are serious issues with the busking license.
