Uisce Éireann Reassures Drinking Water Unaffected By North Clare Oil Spill

Uisce Éireann is reassuring that there’s been no impact on drinking water supplies following a suspected oil spill in North Clare.

The utility says it’s been actively responding to an incident in the Miltown Malbay area, with environmental monitoring underway to assess any potential impact on local fish, aquatic life and bathing water quality.

Uisce Éireann says current indications suggest the incident originated from a hydrocarbon release from a third-party source.

Tankers have been deployed to assist with clean-up efforts, while the utility is working with the EPA, Inland Fisheries Ireland and other relevant authorities.

Checks are continuing to establish whether there has been any impact on local fish, aquatic life or bathing water quality.

Uisce Éireann is reminding anyone handling oil or similar materials to ensure they’re properly managed and disposed of, warning unauthorised discharges can have significant environmental impacts.
