Uisce Éireann is being asked to show “common courtesy” to the people of East Clare following a recent damning inspection of a local wastewater treatment facility.
A recent Environmental Protection Agency audit of the O’Briensbridge Water Treatment Facility found that residents were consuming inadequately disinfected water for 12 months before a ‘boil water notice’ was put in place due to deficiencies in the operation of the plant.
In response to a request from Killaloe Councillor Tony O’Brien for Clare County Council to arrange a meeting between the water utility and local representatives, the local authority has said that all queries should be directed to Uisce Éireann.
Former Mayor of Clare and Fianna Fáil Councillor O’Brien says as a statutory body, Uisce Éireann must provide assurances to the people of East Clare that no such incident will happen again.
