UHL Overcrowding Eases In March For Third Consecutive Year

The level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital reduuced in March for the third consecutive year.

The latest trolley analysis from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show that 1,701 admitted patients were waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick last month.

This represents a 6% drop compared to March 2024 and an 18% decrease from the peak of 2,080 in 2023.

UHL remained the busiest hospital in the country, however, with Cork and Galway University Hospitals recording 939 and 862 patients on trolleys respectively.

Over the same period, trolley numbers at Ennis Hospital dropped by five to 102, according to the INMO, which says last month was the second busiest March on record for hospital overcrowding.
