UHL CEO Defends Handling Of Overcrowding

The CEO of the University of Limerick Hospitals Group is defending the handling of overcrowding in Dooradoyle.

Colette Cowan – who took on the role in recent months – admits her policy of moving patients on trolleys to overflow areas of wards is far from ideal but says it is safer than leaving them in an overcrowded A&E.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has previously said they believe the practice is unsafe.

However, in an interview to be broadcast on Clare FM's Morning Focus, Ms Cowan insists it's the best way to deal with a difficult problem.
