It’s been revealed that two-thirds of farmers are in debt to creditors.
A study by the Irish Farmers Journal out today, has found that the bulk of farm debt is made up of unpaid bills from the local merchant to contractors and vets.

It also found that over four in ten farmers plan to expand operations in the next two years – while just 50% have identified an heir.
However, Clare County Chairman of the Irish Farmers Association Willie Hanrahan says debt is a normal part of farmers’ lives:
