Councillors have this week been given a briefing by National Broadband Ireland on where Clare stands in terms of the rollout of the overall plan.

It follows concerns expressed over the last number of years about the pace of the rollout and the communication around it.

22,789 premises are to served in the lifetime of the plan, with more than half of these now expected to have surveyed works began by the end of this year.

All of them are expected to be surveyed by the end of 2023, by which time two thirds are expected to see building works commence on them.

More than 1,700 premises in this county covered by the Limerick city and Gort deployment areas are ready for service, while a further 3,400 in the Kilkishen area, which includes much of the South and East of the county, are now seeing building work underway.

A further 2,700 in the Corofin ara are due to be connected between September and November next year, while 1,500 premises in Feakle can expect connection in the first half of 2024.

NBI told the meeting it expects all eligible premises in Clare to see connection by the end of 2026 at the latest.
