Two Thefts Or Burglaries Happening Every Day In Clare In First Quarter Of 2021

A theft or burglary took place at least twice each day in Clare in the first three months of 2021.

New CSO figures show while year-on-year offences in some areas have reduced, overall crime rates here are back to around pre-pandemic levels.

All crime statistics are released under reservation by the CSO, in a sign of their concerns over the quality of Garda-provided data – and they show a mixed bag in a number of different areas for Clare.

200 thefts or burglaries happened in this county between January and March – an average of more than two recorded incidents every 24 hours.

However, it’s a year on year drop of around 20 percent on the same time period last year, which was equal to that of 2019.

There’ve also been slight dips in the level of drink driving detections and drugs offences this quarter,

Other areas though, are showing a clear increase – there were 74 fraud offences in this county in the first three months of 2021 – which is around an 85 per cent spike from the same periods across the past two years.

16 sex offences were recorded here compared to 10 during the same three months of last year, while damage to property incidences are up by nearly 10 percent in Clare year on year.

Senior Gardai here have previously told Clare FM that they’re satisfied they have adequate resources to continue combatting crime across the county.
