It's understood that two peace activists attempted to reach a US military aircraft with the intention of searching it but were spotted and intercepted by Gardaí.
The men, aged in their 50's and 70's, were arrested and taken to Shannon Garda Station where they're being held under Air Navigation and Transport legislation.
A senior Garda Spokesperson says the men are being questioned in relation to a security breach at the Mid-West Airport, as well as damage to a fence.
They can be held for up to six hours.
