Two people have been airlifted to hospital following a house fire in East Clare this evening.
The fire was reported shortly before 6pm at Knockroe, near Meelick.
Although the incident occurred in Co. Clare, the area is covered by Limerick Fire Service. Four units of the fire brigade fro the city responded along with ambulance paramedics and Gardaí.
The Emergency Aeromedical service air ambulance and the Shannon-based Irish Coastguard helicopter, Rescue 115, attended the incident and landed in fields close to the scene.
Two casualties were airlifted to Bishopstown GAA field in Cork, from where they were transported by road ambulance to Cork University Hospital for treatment.
One of the injured in believed to be an elderly man.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.
