Two Men Arrested After Cannabis Worth €50,000 Discovered Near Clarecastle

Two men have been arrested after €50,000 of Cannabis was discovered by Gardai near Clarecastle.

It comes after Gardai investigating the activities of criminal groups involved in the sale and supply of controlled drugs and related criminal activity in the MidWest region carried out the search of a wooded area near Clarecastle yesterday.

Two men, one in his mid-forties and one in his late-fifties, were arrested and are currently being detained at stations in the Clare Garda Division under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

The operation follows searches at a number of locations in the Ennis area where approximately €2,000 of suspected cocaine and drug dealing paraphernalia have been seized.

The seized drugs will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

The operation is being led by Divisional Drugs Units from Clare and Limerick and investigations are ongoing.
