Two Flights Divert To Shannon Today

Two flights have diverted to Shannon Airport today.

The first, an Air Berlin flight, declared a medical emergency, while, a short time later an Austrian Airlines flight reported a technical issue.

The first unscheduled landing involved Air Berlin flight AB-7409 which was travelling from the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao to Dusseldorf in Germany.

The flight was south west of Cork when the crew advised controllers they wished to divert to Shannon, requesting a priority landing.

The flight landed safely at 4.37am and three patients were transferred to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.

A short time later the crew of Austrian Airlines OS-72, which was en route from Toronto to Vienna contacted controllers around to report they had a technical issue.

The flight landed safely at 5.32am and taxied to the terminal where engineers investigated the problem.

The Air Berlin flight resumed its journey at 6.15am while Austrian Airlines flight 72 continued to Vienna about two hours after diverting.
